What is Upgraded and Maintenance?

Joomla maintenance can be tricky for newbies. As a matter of fact, they often do not know what to do and end up wasting a lot of time on Joomla maintenance that would otherwise have been spent elsewhere.

You should never take Joomla maintenance lightly. If it is a growing company, it is quite natural for Joomla to grow out of date very quickly. Therefore, you should pay careful attention and use your head when it comes to maintenance.

You may ask, what is the difference between maintenance and upgrades? There is none. They are used to describe the same thing.

This is the same logic with updates: when you update files, you also upgrade. If you are a newbie in the area of Joomla maintenance, you will find it hard to believe this. In fact, it is one of the most misunderstood terms in the world of Joomla.

Updates is the process of changing how a site works. This may include things like adding content, adding plugins, removing outdated and unwanted elements, changing the layout of the site, adding new modules and more.

When the basic meaning is so important, you would surely think about this for a while before using the word. If you are new to Joomla, you may even find yourself repeating it to yourself. But what exactly does it mean?

The word “updates” could mean many things, but it mostly has a negative connotation. It implies that your website has not been maintained for sometime and it must be fixed at once.

It could also mean that there is more than one way to build a Joomla website. It could be one way, but the newer versions may not be compatible with the older versions. Therefore, the older version is getting updated, but not the other way around.

Another misconception about upgrades is that they are seen as the first step for Joomla maintenance. In actuality, updates are just the next stage of a maintenance plan.

The end result of this is that upgrades can mean anything from a simple change of one or two elements, to complete redesigning of the entire site. There are many instances when such changes were required, but the decision was made not to make the changes. Some of the most famous examples are the recent redesign of WordPress.org, the introduction of Microsoft Office, etc.

Achieving this kind of improvement means investing some time and energy. However, you may have other plans that require new features for the website to function.

The bottom line is that updates are not considered maintenance at all. Rather, they are the next phase in a maintenance plan.
