There are quite a few new features incorporated into Joomla, so let’s now do a feature comparison between Joomla 3 and Joomla 4. Here’s a list of the most notable changes made between the two versions. Note that all the latest features are available in Joomla version 3, however, some of the most important and commonly used features have not been integrated into it. We’ll look at these below.
Web 2.0 technology. Joomla is a content management system (CMS), which offers its users a number of great features. One of the most important is the integration of a “Front Page” system. This is similar to that found on social networking sites, in that you can upload your own personalised page in order to showcase your web presence. There is also an “Open Directory Project”, which makes it easy to manage websites from multiple locations.
Ecommerce support. Nowadays, many businesses are moving towards an ecommerce environment as it provides them with an attractive and user-friendly way to keep track of their products, track orders and track sales. Joomla comes with a rich feature set, which allows you to store your products and other data in a secure and convenient way.
Shopping Carts. Joomla comes with a shopping cart module, allowing you to manage and process payments and orders quickly and effortlessly. There is a shopping cart module that supports both a flat-rate payment plan and a paid-per-click plan, providing you with the ability to display relevant information about your products and to allow users to make purchases without having to fill out forms for each product individually.
‘Add to cart’ function. Many ecommerce software has an ‘Add to cart’ function, where users can add new items as they come in or can simply update the data stored for previous items. The Joomla shopping cart module allows you to do just the same thing, with the added advantage of the ability to perform advanced features such as filtering by price range, creating multiple pages or adding images.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Joomla can perform Search Engine Optimization (SEO) tasks on your website automatically, based on various input parameters. It also includes an internal Search Engine, which allows you to submit your website’s URL to a variety of search engines such as Google and Yahoo! and Bing for a better chance of being listed in their results pages.
Payment gateways. This is a fairly recent addition, but has become very popular for ecommerce websites due to its ability to integrate with other online payment systems such as PayPal, Google Checkout and ClickBank.
It’s worth noting that Joomla has a number of different functionalities and features, and that they are not all integrated into the default installation. As we mentioned above, you’ll have to install additional extensions to fully utilize all the bells and whistles.
One of the most popular extensions is the ‘Pay Per Click (PPC) System’, which allows you to create banners, direct mail campaigns and send SMS text messages directly to your customers. A quick check of the internet will reveal dozens of similar extensions – all of which provide the same functionality but in different ways.
If you need an admin panel, there are two basic options available. The first one is called Joomla Admin Panel and the second is Joomla Enterprise, which is built on top of the Joomla admin panel and integrates with the standard Joomla install. This gives you the ability to manage everything from ordering new products, setting up sales pages, tracking orders and even tracking sales.
Some of the more important extensions include the ‘My Shop, which offers a user-friendly web interface to help you manage your products and promotions, the ”, which helps you manage listings and online stores. If you want to run online stores, you’ll be interested in ‘BizWare’, ‘If you’re considering using Joomla to help you manage your online business, it’s best to get a look at the software before making a commitment. We strongly recommend that you use Joomla, as it’s very flexible and intuitive to use and it will save you lots of time and money in the long term.
